La Marquise de SévignéThe Marquise de Sevigne is a French chocolatier specializing in the creation and sale of fine chocolates. The business was founded in 1898 in Royat (Auvergne) by Clementine and Auguste Rouzaud. The company took its name in 1900 after Clementine Rouzaud sent an assortment of its production to Edmond Rostand then living at Vichy Pavilion Sévigné which had been occupied by the Marquise de Sevigne in the seventeenth century.
From 1900 to 1914, the brand became recognized throughout France through its many stores, including its main shop on the Boulevard de la Madeleine in Paris. The Marquise de Sevigne also began to export its production . The company has opened a chocolate museum near Strasbourg at Geispolsheim (see link below). Cachou LajaunieCachou Lajaunie is a small square pastille of black liquorice. It is sold in a yellow, round tin and is currently marketed by Kraft Foods. The candy also existed with mint and vanilla. The brand can trace its roots back to Toulouse in 1880 and the chemist Leo Lajaunie.
The brand has had different owners since its inception and is now owned by Cadbury France, a subsidiary of Kraft Foods. More than ten million boxes are sold each year. Links |
