Welcome to Old French Adverts
This site is an archive of advertisements taken from French magazines and journals of the early 20th Century. The purpose of the site is to provide a resource for those interested in graphic design; advertising generally and in French social history of the period 1900 to 1950. There are currently more than 1900 adverts available to view.
Please note that copyright remains with the originators and that the images, which are presented for information only, have been reduced in resolution (see technical details below) to help combat unauthorised use. Right-clicking on images has also been disabled.
Some Technical Details
The images were scanned using either a Brother© DCP-6690CW A3 scanner or an Epson WorkForce WF-7610 scanner at a resolution of 400dpi. The resultant images were re-sized, using Adobe© Photoshop Elements©, to be 1000 pixels along the longest side.
Some "cleaning" of the images has been done to remove blemishes / flaws such as foxing and crease marks. In addition, where the source magazines were very badly discoloured through age some adjustments have been made to remedy this. Nothing material has been added to or removed from the images.
