Welcome to Old French Adverts

This site is an archive of advertisements taken from French magazines and journals of the early 20th Century. The purpose of the site is to provide a resource for those interested in advertising generally and in French social history of the period 1900 to 1950. There are currently more than 1100 adverts available to view.

The site is constantly being updated with new adverts and with further information on sources.  Please check back regularly to see the additions.

Please note that copyright remains with the originators and that the images, which are presented for information only, have been reduced in resolution (see technical details below) to help combat unauthorised use. Right-clicking on images has also been disabled.

Use the Search Box or the drop down menus above to explore the galleries.

Some Technical Details

The images were scanned using a Brother© DCP-6690CW A3 scanner at a resolution of 400dpi. The resultant images were re-sized, using Adobe© Photoshop Elements©, to be 1000 pixels along the longest side.

Some "cleaning" of the images was done to remove blemishes and flaws such as foxing and crease marks. In addition, where the source journals were very badly discoloured through age some adjustments were made to remedy this.  Nothing material has been added to or removed from the images.
